The way of walking gets changed whether one has the destination or not. One, who has confirmed the exact time and place, just passes over the scenery around him swiftly. Otherwise, another, who has no decision of the aim, gets many things slowly with their eyes being put in every landscape.

 

Adriana Affortunati wanders spot by spot in Seoul, with bags diversely sized. She doesn’t care for skyscrapers which can be the symbol of the ‘city’ or sweeping people in fancy clothes. The things she focuses on are walls warn out in old cities, dumped things at the corner which seems to be a small hill. She gets a lot of objects-a small bottle for medicine, exotically shaped stones covered with ash- from there, which look like just, more or less, “trash”. But the meaning of them changes from the moment she gets those as one of her collections in a small bag as hunching over to touch them. Loads of the dump become isolated by being abandoned by their owner so they can’t go the relationship on. Right the moment, the artist keeps her eyes on those and hunches over on them to get, fully new “relationship” starts again even after the dumping.

 

The “relationship”, to Affortunati, is a crucial part of her attitude, which can be a kind of ‘faith’ to her. She enjoys the unproposed encounter when she got into an unfamiliar community as creating a new relationship by doing quite light and daily conversations. This process can be done on the objects she collects every day. Surely including the link between the object and her, she also thinks about weaving a relation with strangers who ask what she’s doing with dirt when she started to go around with the trash. And that moment is essential for her – drawing a new link with them.

 

Through several shows and residencies, she can now select works she’ll travel with or just leave at the place it was installed. The leaving is not abandoning, thus she spares much time with the objects within her installing. The weird, but special relationship comes up when things are taken by her hunching over share their texture to her while impressing us long and deeply, just as a small smile we do seeing the elastically hanging tea bags and iron sticks displayed as old swords in museums.
